2001
“Neighborhoods for the 21st Century”
Roanoke, Virginia
Roanoke
was the host city for the 2001 Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference
showcasing the “Star City of the South”. 295 participants
gathered to gain information and suggestions of “how to’s”
from the theme “Neighborhoods for the 21st Century”.
A highlight of the conference was an open workshop for
all attendees presented by staff members from the nationally known Study
Circles Resource Center. Attendees experienced tours to varied neighborhoods
(historic, NUSA award-winner neighborhood community center), recycling
train station, and of course, the giant electric star on top of Mill
Mountain. More exciting, the tours were made on old, historic renovated
busses. All left energized, full of ideas for the survival of their
neighborhoods for the 21st century.
